York's Interdimension Basket of Washes

York is done with this. Every Wash needs a comfy, happy and most of all, not horrifying and trauma-inducing space where they can feel safe. A place where the horrors that inevitably await them in their own universes cannot intrude.

And York will provide. Even if he has to drag them across universes to do so.

David stops and opens his eyes, looking to York. "Yeah. Of course. Carolina was the only child of the Director and his dead wife. She strove so hard to win her father's attention, I think. Bet if you find her here, she's going to be connected to Leonard Church."

'I know Carolina,' he says slowly, still unable to believe it. 'She's the unofficial leader of our group. She's Number One.' What if it's the same. What if The Director is here as well as the Counselor and the parallels run deeper than they'd originally thought?

"Is her hair really red?" David asks. "The Director remembers her blonde, like her mother."

'As far as I know,' he says. 'Never seen it any other color, or any blonde roots.'

"She was good at it," David sighs. "Can we just get somewhere. I don't like remembering Carolina."

He's going to have to look into that. When she comes back. If she can help them find the Director, or this world's equivalent, maybe they can find Price.

'Right, sorry. Just got caught off guard.' Seriously off guard. He starts walking and guiding again. The car's just up ahead.

"Do... what is Epsilon like here?"

York implied he has encountered the AIs, and David has always wondered what his intended partner would have been like.

'He's a wanderer, hardly ever at home,' he says. 'Few times I've met him, he seems like a nice guy. Rather wry sense of humor, but easy going. I know D wishes he was around more often. He was looking for Alpha, before we found him, now I think he's just so used to being out on the streets all day, being in one place too long makes him uncomfortable. Apparently he's been complaining about having to go to his uni lectures lately.'

"Oh," David frowns. That wasn't what he thought Epsilon would be like at all. But he's not surprised York is close to Delta. "How is Delta?"

[depthlesslock]

'Stressed,' he sums up. 'He's got a lot going on, especially with the family. It's wearing on him. Car's right in front of you, can you get in alright?'

"I'm not an invalid. Most of the time."

That latter part is definitely mumbled under his breath to be unheard.

"Delta is by far the most stable of the personalities beyond Sigma, who might be crazy," David points out.

[depthlesslock]

'No, but you've got your eyes closed,' he point out. 'Unless you've opened them.' Which he wouldn't be able to see due to the helmet.

'Maybe he should come here and talk to our Delta, because God knows, he could do with some stability.' He sighs. Maybe D should join the nest as well. 'Heard about Sig. The whole Meta thing. He's really different here.'

"Logic is stable," David says, confused. How could Delta be anything other than that. "I don't understand."

But he moves and reaches for the door. See, eyes open.

'They're human here,' he reminds him, moving around to the driver's side to get in. 'Delta practically raised the younger Ais with Omega and he's got a this "family comes first" complex whit-sh is getting dangerously out of hand. He's been pretty illogical lately.'

If David really reaches, he supposes he could understand the Delta thing. Logic can't sustain an individual with complex emotional goals and desires, especially one responsible for younger siblings. But it's still sad.

"He was good with Theta, and less than amazing with the other fragments."

'He and Theta get on well here,' he says smiling as he starts the car. 'He made him a new helmet recently. Theta was thrilled and I think that did D some good as well. I think he's probably better with the others here than with you, but he has been with them longer and been actively responsible for most of them. Though, granted, there's no shortage of issues. Sometimes I just want to wrap the whole family in bubblewrap.'

"I feel the same way about the fragments, and others about me," David says softly as he settles into the seat. See, not biting him. Okay, this works.

"Delta... tries the most to be human without consuming others. Theta plays at it, but I don't know that he truly longs to be more human like Delta does. I'm sorry to hear it doesn't work out for him here."

'Bubblewrap for everyone,' he says. 'All of them?'

He winces a little once he gets the reference of what Sigma's doing. Guess it was too much to hope the Meta wasn't a thing in this Wash's world. Damn. 'Why does Delta want it so mut-sh?' he asks. 'And why doesn't Theta?'

"I imagine it has a lot to do with you," David says, then shakes his head. "I mean Miles. You... He is a bit of an armchair philosopher, and Delta loves talking it with him. What is the human condition. What does it take to be human? What is sensation, why are we controlled by our hormones, what is love. He almost lost Miles. The director was going to pull the AIs, see. But York and Delta were together so long..."

Sometimes it seems like they're becoming one person, even as Delta's personality is starting to crystalize into something more and distinctly his own. It's... strange.

'I had trouble not saying "me" when talking about the other York to begin with. Still mess up sometimes, don't worry. I know what you mean.' He's had longer to get used to it, what with Other Wash being here several months now.

'We do have some interesting conversations, and I guess we'd get more t-shance if we shared headspace and D wasn't looking after people so often. Oh, I heard about that. It was after... Carolina got the twins, right? And something went wrong. That York and Delta didn't want to be separated, I guess?'

Like hell he's talking about Carolina and hte twins.

"Delta and York... are a unified being, in a lot of ways," David says cautiously. "Bleeding into each other. It isn't bad. They like it, it's who they are, and losing that would probably kill either of them at this point."

[depthlesslock]

He's focusing on the junction because it's a tricky one and he's being extra careful not to freak Wash out. Yeah.

'That sounds... I was going to say "unstable", but in a weird way, it sounds like it's the opposite.' And he can't help but wonder what it must be like.

"They stabilize each other," David answers. "Together the two of you are stronger than you are apart. I wouldn't be surprised if you do the same for each other here."

[depthlesslock]

'Well I'm certainly trying to help make him stronger,' he mutters, sighing. 'I think there's only so mut-sh I can do though.' What he needs is Maine. For things to go back to how they were before, when he had someone to love and who loved him and he had better balance in his life.

"Theirs are not problems humans are meant to fathom," David says, his voice distant.
