York is done with this. Every Wash needs a comfy, happy and most of all, not horrifying and trauma-inducing space where they can feel safe. A place where the horrors that inevitably await them in their own universes cannot intrude.

And York will provide. Even if he has to drag them across universes to do so.

"What!?" David asks, leaning forward. This is unacceptable. "Maine... I... They won't tell me much of what happened. The AIs have figured out how to block me from it when they're in my head."

Maybe he shouldn't have said that. He hadn't thought- "Maine is dead," he says. "Trust me, that creature out there, it isn't him. I've seen the Meta, fought it. Even worked with it. All it cares about is taking the rest of the AIs and power."

"No," David whispers, looking away. "I don't believe you. He's not gone."

"I saw what happened. Sigma... Sigma burned him out until there was nothing left. He- he killed Carolina to take Eta and Iota. No way Maine would have done that."

"No," David answers, angrily. "He's going to be better. We're going to help him some day."

He shakes his head. Doesn't want to do this but it's better than living in hope, right? "We got rid of the AIs, me and Alpha. We got them out of Maine, killed them with an EMP. But what was left wasn't Maine."

[churbooseanon]

"No," David repeats firmly, and even angrily. "I won't hurt Maine, I won't let the AIs die, and I definitely won't let something happen to Delta or Theta."

He owes protection to kind Theta, who was too sweet to hurt someone unless he had to, and Delta... Was growing to mean more to him as well.

"Delta and Theta... they weren't them anymore. They were part of the Meta. And they would have kept killing, kept slaughtering to get what they wanted." He takes a breath and closes his eyes. "Were I'm from, it was the Meta who killed North to get Theta."

[churbooseanon]

"Stop it," David demands. "I won't let anyone kill North, or hurt Theta, or York. I won't let anyone else die."

He opens his mouth to respond but then stops and lets out a sigh. "Fine. Whatever you want to believe. Maybe it'll be different for you." He doubts it. There was never anything left of the Meta to save.
